Roxbury 1852.
The neighborhood of Roxbury, or "Rocksberry" as it was first known, was settled in 1630, almost simultaneously with that of Boston. In this first installment of a two part map set, I spell out the historical development of Roxbury from its beginnings, through to the developing industrialization of the early 1900's. I touch upon the early settlers, the changing tides of ethnicities that have populated the area, the development of religion in the area, and much more. Even I was surprised at the extent of the farmland in the town as I was researching. The map is 24"X36" and in full color. |
