Hyde Park.
Hyde Park was the last neighborhood to be annexed to Boston, in 1912. Long considered the countryside by the rest of the city, Hyde Park has made many military, social and industrial contributions to the city, most notably the 54th Massachusetts regiment, Sturtevant company, and the first woman voter in the US. There are beautiful examples of Victorian architecture, particularly along Highland Avenue, and mill buildings that once churned out textiles along Mother Brook are being converted into condominium complexes. The pressure was on to get this district right because my wife hails from there. The map is 24x36, as Hyde Park tends to run North to South. It is shaded in soft tans and neutral tones to compliment just about any room. |
