Boston-1865.
The town of Boston is now a city, and has begun to gobble up surrounding towns by means of annexation, and add them to its ever-growing landmass. The city has undergone many changes, and the shoreline is almost unrecognizable with the various filling projects that have taken place since the last print in the series. Boston is the center for literature, and abolitionism in those years. The coming of the railroads re-shaped the face of Boston in a way never seen before at this time in history. The plight of the Irish immigrant begins on this print, as well as the outbreak of the Civil War. The closer one looks at this point, the more they will see. |
